12 weeks

We've made it through the first trimester.  Well, it's official in four days.  I'd say I've gotten out lucky.  No puke.  Barely any nausea.  No acne.  I'm crossing my fingers and knocking on wood as I type this.  The changes I noticed this week are big.  I am no longer napping everyday and I've worked out three times this week.  After 3 months of barely getting myself off the couch, I've come a long way.  My (mom's) exercise ball is helping me a lot.  It makes stretching feel so good.  And these joints definitely need it.

11 weeks

I remember thinking that by 11 weeks I might have a bump showing.  There's not really anything there yet.  Just a little extra bloat.  But I totally feel comfortable wearing clothes that don't hide it anymore.  I'm excited for it to grow and become obvious.  Slowly, we're telling people our news.  More and more will know as we pass the hurdle of the first trimester.  And I'm hoping that my energy will begin returning because I'm tired of this exhaustion.

My birthday

I turned 29 on the 20th.  We celebrated with friends at dinner in Plymouth.  We had yummy food and I let myself go carb crazy.  Wood fired focaccia and pizzas filled my tummy and I was able to enjoy iced raspberry tea while everyone sipped wine.  Once dinner was done, I chose to walk to the Dairy King for a good ole soft serve with sprinkles and we strolled around town.  It was funny to think of this seemingly uneventful birthday and see that it was just right for me, right now.

We then celebrated -Koch style- with family and friends at the lake house the following weekend.  Couldn't ask for more.

The doctor

We went to our first appointment today.  I was excited for J to meet our doctor and hoped he would feel as at ease with her as I do.  I thought our first appointment would be full of warnings and precautions and it was exactly the opposite.  I felt at peace.  She encouraged me to trust myself and my body, which is what J has been doing all along.  I was still nervous when she started the ultrasound.  I held my breath waiting to see something in her face or for her to say something.  Turning the screen around, she pointed to our baby.  With a strong pumping heart.  Tears streamed down my face.  She worried that she was hurting me.  And I laughed, said No, and smiled.  That was the best moment I've felt.  This baby is strong and growing and ours.

Summer school

Last week it was We Bought a Zoo.  This week, it's The Blindside.  I sit in the back of my classroom so the students can't see me cry through the entire thing.

8 weeks

Two months down already.  I'm still feeling good, just ex.haus.ted.  I'm taking a nap pretty much everyday after teaching summer school.  And somewhere in between there I'm getting my homework done for grad school.  I haven't felt like grocery shopping or cooking, which is so unlike me.  But I can't complain much.  I really don't feel sick so it's kinda easy to forget I have a kid growing inside of me.  So far, this baby's been treating me mighty kind.
